God’s Design of Christians and Government
God established authorities (Romans 13:1)
1Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
We must work for justice (Psalm 106:3)
3 Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.
We should obey God first and foremost (Acts 5:29)
29Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men!
We must be the salt of the earth (Matthew 5:13)
13"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men.
We must get involved but be careful of the wolves (Matthew 10:16)
16I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
We must pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2)
1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
We must turn to God to heal our land (2 Chronicles 7:14)
14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
We must seek justice and encourage the oppressed (Isaiah 1:17)
17 learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.
We must all serve the Lord (Psalm 2:11)
11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling.
We must be good soldiers of Christ (2 Timothy 2:3)
3Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
